Camp Boggy Creek Offers a Free Camp Weekend for Kids and Parents who were Impacted by Recent Hurricanes.
Eustis, FL. - Camp Boggy Creek, founded by actor Paul Newman, and General Norman Schwarzkopf in 1996 is adding another layer of awesomeness for kids facing challenging illnesses. Camps’ primary focus is providing children with serious medical illnesses such as blood disorders, cancer, epilepsy, spina bifida, and more, a life-changing camp experience for zero cost to their families. After last year's hurricanes ravaged parts of Florida, the Camp Boggy Creek team set out to provide that same life-changing experience to children and their families that were traumatized by the Hurricanes in one way, shape, or form. Families can learn more about the weekend here > https://www.boggycreek.org/hurricane-relief-retreat.
Dan Jurman, President/CEO is beyond excited to see this program come to life: “Many good people were devastated by the 2022 Hurricane season and as a camp that exists to help children and families heal the scars within, we wanted to give back and help provide a safe, healing environment for our much-deserving neighbors at no cost to them. It is our hope that healing from this trauma can begin while creating some life-long family memories at Camp Boggy Creek.”
The free retreat weekend for children and their families will be held on March 17-19th on the serene grounds of Camp Boggy Creek. Children and their families will find smiles, fun, laughter, new friends and can participate in countless activities at camp like archery, swimming, boating, fishing, arts and crafts, and so much more.
The program is provided free of charge thanks to some amazing support from our friends at the Universal Orlando Foundation who contributed $100,000 to this new program we call “Innovation Station.” The funds will help support future experiences for children who are experiencing Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) as a result of the pandemic, violence, family, mass shootings, family violence, and other tragedies. Innovation Station will be an annual event going forward, allowing Camp Boggy Creek to pilot working with children from diagnosis groups we’ve never served before so we can ensure that every child has the opportunity to experience the magic of camp.
Since 1996, Camp Boggy Creek has made it possible for children with serious illnesses to enjoy a camp experience in a safe, medically- sound environment. Located just a short drive from Orlando, Florida, the 232-acre Camp serves children ages 7-16 who’ve been diagnosed with a serious illness. As a year-round retreat, Camp Boggy Creek serves thousands of campers and their families through activity-packed weekly and weekend camp programs.
