Former NBA Player Gary Forbes Visits Camp Boggy Creek

Being one of only 3 NBA players to play with Type 1 Diabetes, Gary Forbes knows all about powering through challenging situations. Gary Forbes visited campers and parents at Camp Boggy Creek to encourage them, inspire them, and introduce them to his graphic novel series entitled Sole Survivors. This series aims to inspire, educate, and provide awareness of the daily health challenges faced by children with chronic health conditions. Gary’s intent is to instill the perseverance and mental resilience needed to live a healthy lifestyle against all odds and to communicate that diagnoses are not barriers, but springboards to success. Volume 1 tells the story of eleven Superhero child characters who go through major everyday struggles while battling chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, autism, cerebral palsy, and Crohn's disease. One special summer they all travel to a summer camp on a distant planet where they face their toughest battles all while training their minds and superpower abilities.

Dan Jurman, CEO of Camp Boggy Creek is beyond excited about Gary's visit: "When I heard about the good work that Gary was doing through his series Sole Survivors, I knew we had to have him out to camp. His remarkable story will resonate with our own superhero campers who are living with serious medical challenges. All of us at Camp Boggy Creek are so grateful for Gary's upcoming visit!"
