The BEST Summer Ever: Dorian’s Story

During the month of July, Camp Boggy Creek recognizes National Cleft and Craniofacial Awareness month. Pediatric cleft and craniofacial patients often endure health conditions, and may also experience social stigmatization, which can lead to isolation and low self-esteem, and due to their condition are unable to attend many social activities including a regular summer camp. Meet Dorian, a remarkable young boy who has been attending summer camp at Camp Boggy Creek since he was 7 years old. Dorian’s journey with cleft lip has presented unique challenges, but at Camp Boggy Creek, he has found a heaven where he can be himself and create lasting memories with his family during their retreats. Dorian counts the days each year while waiting to go back to Camp.

At Camp Boggy Creek, kindness and respect form the foundation of every interaction. Dorian shares that making friends is effortless because everyone understands and supports one another. Regardless of their diagnosis, every child is treated equally, fostering an environment of inclusivity, and understanding.

Dorian's mom, Erika, echoes his sentiments, emphasizing the importance of providing every child and their family with the opportunity to attend Camp Boggy Creek. She believes that the camp's nurturing environment allows children to escape the daily challenges they face, such as bullying, and instead feel saved, respected, and loved.

A summer camp week at Camp Boggy Creek is ALWAYS free for our campers, and is made possible by amazing human beings just like you. It costs $2500 per camper to come and experience a life-changing week. By supporting Camp Boggy Creek with a gift, you can help more children like Dorian to experience the joy, healing, and sense of belonging that Camp Boggy Creek provides.
